1.1 This test method describes a standardized procedure for removing volatile materials such as gasoline and water from used engine oils prior to further oil analysis. It also provides an estimate of the amount of such volatiles present in used engine oils.
1.1.1 Another estimate of the amount of volatile materials in used engine oils can be obtained by Test Method D3525, which determines the weight percent of the used oil sample boiling below the boiling point of n-tetradecene.
