The AWPA C Standards are no longer under development and have been replaced by AWPA Standards U1 and T1. U1 contains information for end users/specifiers, and T1 contains treating requirements for manufacturers
Applies to each of the treating processes and to all species and types of material. If these requirements are to be otherwise modified to meet special conditions, complete detailed instructions shall be given.
The following requirements, as modified orsupplemented by other AWPA Standards, apply to each ofthe treating processes and to all species and types ofmaterial. If these requirements are to be otherwisemodified to meet special conditions, complete detailedinstructions shall be given.
Maximum time duration (total elapsed time of atreating phase), maximum temperature, and maximumpressure limits shall not be exceeded. Only those speciesand preservatives listed in a commodity standard that havepreviously been found suitable for use in this particularapplication, or sufficient test information has beensubmitted to warrant their inclusion.
A phase shall begin when a change in conditionswithin the cylinder is initiated and shall end when eithernew conditions are imposed or the cylinder is emptied ofpreservative. For example, the period of steaming shallbegin when the temperature reaches 93 o C (200 o F) and endwhen the steam is shut off in the cylinder and the cylindervented.
The minimum time duration, when stipulated for aphase, shall be the period of time after the minimumcondition has been attained and until the end of that phase. All dimensions referred to are nominal dimensionsfor sawn four sides material.
