Scope:
This method is a screening test to determine the resistanceof wood based materials to decay by selected fungi undercontrolled laboratory conditions. It can also be used toestablish the minimum amount of preservative that is effectivein preventing decay of selected species of wood by selectedfungi under optimum laboratory conditions. Preservativethresholds obtained using this procedure provide an indicationof retentions to be used in above-ground field tests; retentionsto include in ground-contact field tests would be greater (e.g.,1.5 - 2.0 times) than those obtained in soil-block tests. Thistest method is intended to provide information forstandardization of protection treatments. It may also be usefulas a screening test.
