Scope:
This Standard specifies a method for field testingexperimental or commercial wood preservatives intended foruse in wood to be exposed to the weather out of contact withthe ground without the additional protection of a surfacecoating (i.e. Use Category 3B). The main objective of themethod is to evaluate the relative effectiveness of thepreservative, applied to jointed samples of pine sapwood by atreatment method relevant to its intended practical use.Effectiveness is evaluated relative to a reference preservativetreatment. The method may also be modified to test naturallydurable wood or wood composites. This test method isintended to provide information for standardization ofprotection treatments. It may also be useful as a screening test.
