This method describes a procedure for acceleratingthe evaluation of wood preservative formulations in soilcontact. This is achieved by using thin wood test specimensthat are subjected to soil exposure under temperature andsoil moisture content (MC) conditions that are ideal forwood decay by either soft-rot or basidiomycete fungi. Themethod is particularly useful for determining the effect ofmodified formulations on the performance of establishedpreservatives, but is also useful in screening newpreservative systems. In order to provide pertinentinformation, candidate preservative systems must becompared to similar preservatives that have documentedfield test performance records.
