The main objective of this paper was to summarize the state of the art regarding the control of the risk related to bromate formation during ozonation. Accounting for the actual water quality regulations and the analytical methods for bromatedetection and given the mechanisms for bromate formation, some recommendations are given regarding the water treatment processes optimization. Solutions are suggested for bromate formation control on full scale plants practicing ozonation to guarantee disinfection and natural or synthetic organic matter oxidation. Includes 13 references, tables, figures.
