The Georgia Environmental Protection Division is currently overseeing a Sound Science Initiative for the 24-county coastal region of Georgia. This initiative is being conducted to help alleviate saltwater intrusion at Hilton Head, South Carolina and Brunswick, Georgia. As part of this initiative, alternate water supply sources were evaluated to offset groundwater withdrawals from the Upper Floridan Aquifer. These potential alternate water supply sources included surface water supplies, off-main stem surface water impoundments, and wastewater effluent reuse. As part of the surface water evaluation, conjunctive use of groundwater and surface water was evaluated as a means to meet minimum flows in each river. This paper presents the results of the surface water supply and conjunctive use evaluation. Includes figures.
