This paper briefly describes the various elements of AWWARF Project 2616, "Impacts of Major Point and Nonpoint Sources on Raw Water Treatability". The overall goal of this project is to evaluate the impact of pollution and source water protection measures on water treatment plant performance and treatment costs. In order to draw conclusions applicable to a diverse array of treatment plants and watersheds, a two step modeling approach was taken to this analysis. In the first step, a screening-level watershed loading model is used to quantify changes in annual pollutant loads on receiving waters. In the second step, a dynamic water treatment plant simulation program is used to assess the impact of these raw water quality changes on treatability and treatment costs.
