The purpose of this paper is to present a discussion of case studies for two public water suppliers that have replaced their existing gas chlorine systems with liquid sodium hypochlorite feed to provide disinfection of treated surface water supplies. These agencies include Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency and Goleta Water District. The discussion includes design and operational issues that needed to be dealt with for the specific projects implemented by the above described water users. There is also an overall discussion and recommended approach of design and operational considerations for other water agencies that may be contemplating similar disinfection facility upgrades.
