Redefining the relationship between utility and permitting agency, the Water Resource Education Workshops for Teachers offered by the City of North Miami Beach and SFWMD are truly a product of a thriving interagency partnership. Over 250 local teachers and educators have gained valuable tools to teach the history, contemporary challenges and responsible stewardship of South Florida's water resources to young people. The partnership between SFWMD and the City of North Miami Beach serves as a benchmark for other utilities desiring to implement a water education program. South Florida water managers are learning from recent water crises and developing measures to help meet future water resource challenges. Implementing solid education programs help build a solid foundation on which to build other water management programs. The City of North Miami Beach plans to continue this fruitful partnership with SFWMD to build that foundation in South Florida.
