As part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Program (CERP), the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers (COE), in conjunction with the South Florida Water ManagementDistrict (SFWMD), have initiated pilot studies to evaluate potential treatment options for anAquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) project that includes hundreds of ASR wells. Treatmentsystems will be designed to treat surface water prior to injection into groundwater storage zoneswith ultimate capacity approaching 1.5 billion gallons of water per day.One of the treatment approaches considered consists of bank filtration followed by ozonation and ultraviolet(UV) disinfection. This process combination offers the improved reliability of amultiple barrier approach while maintaining cost and operational efficiencies due to thesynergistic nature of the individual unit processes. This paper provides a summary of treatabilitystudy results, engineering analysis, and cost estimates. Includes figures.
