Experiments were conducted on both source and treated waters from four differentlocations to study the formation kinetics of dihaloacetic acids (DXAAs) duringchloramination. The effects of treatment, pH, bromide concentration, temperature, andperiods of free chlorination on formation kinetics were evaluated. DXAA formationkinetics were determined to be quite rapid and prechlorination was found to significantlyincrease HAA formation. Includes 10 references, tables, figures.
