Public Water Systems (PWSs) routinely use various forms of chlorine as thedisinfectant of choice for the treatment of drinking water. Chlorine is a popular choicebecause it is a very effective disinfectant, it is inexpensive, and it is widely available invarious forms to suit the needs of nearly every utility. The U.S. Environmental ProtectionAgency (EPA) has evaluated various on-site chlorine generator systems that utilize theelectrolysis of salt brine to generate chlorine.
