Pilot-scale organic chloramine testing at the University of Waterloo has beenaccomplished with four parallel recirculating pipe loops. Water samples have beencollected from the pilot-scale pipe loops to study the effect of pipe material, water sourceand distribution retention time on the relative amounts of organic and inorganicchloramines present. High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), when coupled withamperometric detection, permits the direct determination of inorganic chloramine(monochloramine and dichloramine) separate from the organic chloramine species.HPLC and standard analytical methods were employed to monitor both inorganicchloramine and organic chloramine formation and decay. Includes 8 references, table, figures.
