To comply with Ontario's new water regulations and meet future regulations and water demand, theTown of Tecumseh near Windsor, Ontario, Canada, decided to upgrade their 7.2 USMGD (27.3 ML/D)Tecumseh Water Treatment Plant (WTP) by implementing membrane filtration.This paper discusses design issues in the conversion of a conventional filtration plant to a membranefiltration plant that include: pre-treatment;system flow requirements/staging;plant retrofit;design temperature;cleaning regime;recovery rate;raw water maximum and instantaneous flows;double pumping and power requirements;chemical requirements; and,residue management.
