This slide presentation outlines results from the AWWA Disinfection Practices Survey. The survey's objectives were to: collect basic informationregarding drinking water utilities' secondarydisinfection practices;report on what percentage of drinking water utilitiescurrently use chloramines, chlorine, or nosecondary disinfectant; what percentageof those utilities not currently using chloramines intend to convert tochloramines; and, information on currentsecondary disinfection practices. Topics covered include: survey design and implementation; response demographics; overview of responses on secondary disinfection practices; geographic location, system size, and primary source water of secondary disinfection practices; percentage of utilities planning to convert to using chloramines and reasons why; target residual concentrations of utilities using chloramines; percentage of utilities experiencing nitrification problems that use chloramines; nitrification control strategies; and, common problems encountered when using chloramines.
