This slide presentation outlines a study on the use of disinfectant combinations to limit disinfection byproduct (DBP) formation. Project goals included examining advanced treatment technologies anddisinfectant combinations for estuarine supplies tomeet current and future regulationsand to meet water quality goals of water utilities.Specific objectives included:evaluate combinations of disinfectants onestuarine waters to reduce DBP formation; and, evaluate effects of disinfectant combinations ondistribution systems. Pilot anddistributionsystemtesting included distribution system testing ofannular reactors andbatch incubations in bottles. Parameters analyzed included:DBPs - THM4, HAA9; Bromate;Chlorite, chlorate; NDMA; natural organic matter(NOM), microbial regrowth - AOC, BDOC;HPC, ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB);ammonia (free and total), nitrite, nitrate; and, NOM. Results are given for: total organic carbon (TOC); UV254nm; THM4; HAA8; chlorite and chlorate; bromate; THM4 in ARs; and, HAA8 in ARs. Includes figures.
