This slide presentation outlines a study on the effect of pH and natural organic matter (NOM) on the removal of microcystin-LR by a powdered activated carbon-ultrafiltration (PAC-UF) system. Objectives of the study include: investigate the application of PAC-UF systemfor the removal of microcystin-LR;examine the effect of natural organic matter(NOM) on the removal of microcystin-LR byPAC adsorption, UF, and PAC-UF system; and, examine the effect of pH on the removal ofmicrocystin-LR by three processes. Results outlined for the first objective include: process variables for the best process configuration;PAC process and type;UF (Ultrafiltration) process; membrane characteristics (Hydrophobicity, Pore size); and, hybrid PAC-UF system, membrane characteristics andPAC dosage. Results outlined of the second objective include: PAC process, the effect of NOM on PAC adsorption capacity for microcystin;UF (Ultrafiltration) process, the effect of NOM on the removal of microcystin by UFmembranes - simultaneous and sequential addition of NOM andthe effect of NOM-fouled membrane on rejection of microcystin; and, hybrid PAC-UF system andthe effect of NOM on microcystin removal by PAC-UF. The third objective for future study includes: investigation of theeffect of solution pH onthe removal ofmicrocystin-LR by threeprocesses; and, PAC adsorption - theadsorption of microcystinon PAC decreased withincreasing pH. Includes tables, figures.
