To increase energy efficiency in the water/wastewater sector, the State of Wisconsin developedan energy efficiency program which included program offerings specifically targeted at thewater/wastewater industry. The primary goal of the program was to save energy at water/wastewater treatment facilities anddistribution/collection systems by implementing energy-saving modifications. The objective wasto develop an assessment approach that would provide the owner with four useful tools that include:review facilities (Energy Survey) and make recommendations for improvements;provide a description of the modifications and estimate of the energy that could be saved;provide an estimated modification cost and estimated payback in terms of energy savings;and, facilitation assistance to move the project to implementation. This approach was well-received by municipalities because the results from these work itemswere summarized in a short report presented to superintendents. The superintendents presentedthe information to their governing bodies. The governing bodies used them to assist in theirdecision to move forward with project(s). Includes figure.
