This powerpoint presentation outlines an expansion project at the E.L. Smith Water Treatment Plant (WTP) inEdmonton, Alberta, Canada. Concept development included anumber of innovative ideas that would helpachieve the mandated capacity increase whilereusing parts of the existing process andconverting their function. The conceptual design for the current upgradeidentified the following criteria: expansion to increase net firm capacity to400 ML/d with the capacity to increase to 600 ML/din the future;provide reliability, redundancy, robustness and easeof operation and maintenance;reuse existing infrastructure as much as possible;increase raw water intake and pumping capacity; provide raw water feed to clarifier C3;increase clarification capacity by converting andreusing Clarifier C3 as a turbidity removal clarifier;increase hydraulic capacity;increase filtration capacity;increase disinfection capacity; and, increase chemical feed capacity. Further topics outlined include: raw water supply and pipeline; clarifiers; filters; and, chemical systems. Includes tables, figures.
