This paper presents a laboratory assessment of the DPD (N,N-Diethyl-p-phenylenediamine)actinometer to determine its suitability as a reference actinometer for verifying the calibrationof on-line electronic duty sensors in UV reactor systems. The DPD chemical is commonlyused for measuring chlorine residuals in drinking water, but has not previously beenconsidered as an actinometer for performing UV irradiance measurements. The laboratoryassessment was not completed in time for results to be included herein, so this paper presentsthe results of a literature search of the DPD actinometer and the laboratory assessmentmethodology. Includes 9 references, figures.
