This powerpoint presentation begins by listing sites of vulnerability that include: source water;reservoirs;treatment plants;finished water holding tanks; and, distribution system. The Event Monitor analyzes plantdata, alarms on significantdeviations from baseline, reportsthe Event Name if found, andlearns the event fingerprint if notalready in the Plant Event Library. Broad Spectrum Analysis is the key to detecting significant events whether they areanticipated or not. A two-step patented process is used.Trigger when deviations indicate agent orevent. Classify agent or event in responseto Trigger. During normal operation, process deviations are not larger than 1 on thetrigger vector derived from grouped variations from baseline operation. The5 parameters condensed into a single signal become easy to interpret. Process variations grow quickly when a significant amount ofcontaminant is present. Agent Library provided by Hach. Currently hasover 30 key agents. More will be added in thefuture. Plant Library learned on site for eachlocation. The Agent Library is searched first thenthe Plant Library. If no matches are found anunknown alarm is reported. The presentation provides a case study on a collaborative project between the U.S. Geological Survey and several local utilities that uses this same work approach for source water.
