This powerpoint presentation begins by providing historical background information on an environmental management system and the development ofemergency plans at facilities across Ontario, Canada. Subsequently, a corporate level Emergency Plan was developed, followed by business continuity planning, and a Continuity of Operations Plan. An early lesson learned from testing these plans was that plans just compliment the knowledgeand ability of staff. The presentation lists the Canadian regulatory guidance foremergency management programs and emergencyplans that include: Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (Ontario);Safe Drinking Water Act (Ontario);Nutrient Management Act (Ontario); and,Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Six steps are outlined for reviewing your emergency management program that include: establish objectives; build a facility level emergency plan; build a corporate level emergency responseplan; build a corporate level continuity of operationsplan or business continuity plan; build an emergency plan; and, consider the need for an emergency teamand/or emergency equipment.
