This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting published reports and articles on artificial neural networks (ANN) that include:AWWARF Project TC-2838 (2006) that developed and implemented an Advanced Control System using ANN's, automated control of a full-scale water treatment plant dissolved air flotation (DAF) clarifier, anddeveloped a protocol that other water utilities could follow inimplementing above; Journal AWWA Article, June 2007, titled, Artificial Neural Network Real-Time Process Control System forSmall Utilities. Two other AwwaRF projects are listed. AWWARF Project 90784 (2000) includes:Process Modeling and Control of Enhanced Coagulation;EPCOR and University of Alberta; and,ANN modeling of the coagulation process.AWWARF Project 90861 (2001) includes:Artificial Intelligence Systems for WTP Optimization;University of Alberta, Metropolitan Water District of SouthernCalifornia, EPCOR;using ANN models to optimize the WTP process; and,assessment of on-line implementation with SCADA. The presentation focuses on Port Hardy, British Columbia, Canada, that uses Dissolved Air Flotation and Filtration, but call-outs were common due to process upsetswhen color level changes indicating incorrect chemical dosing. Automatic DAF Control Requirements are listed, along with monitoring and control equipment, process and control techniques, process modeling, ANN architecture, process model for DAF, Integration with SCADA Systems, optimization, alternate coagulant trial, and Protocol for Building ANN Based Controls.
