This powerpoint presentation presents a study on reducing sludge production at the Holland Water Treatment Plant (HWTP), in Holland, Michigan. The research found that selectionof a proper coagulant in the HWTP could significantly improve theplant's overall process performance, including effluent quality, chemical cost, sludge production, filter operation, andoperational control. Among the alternatives tested, alumer best meets theplant's treatment objectives with respect to effluentquality, chemical cost, sludge production and filteroperation.Further process performance improvements areexpected to be achieved by optimizing alum andpolymer feed rates independently (rather than using apre-manufactured blend).
