This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of biofilm and its occurrence in distribution systems. Methods of biofilm measurements are presented, focusing on microscopy, synthesis on attachment, co-inoculation biofilm development, E. coli accumulation on the reactor level and the niche level. Further synthesis results: less E. coli development and lower final density inthe pre-colonized system;lower velocity region important for three reasons includingall initial colonization occurred here;E. coli only persisted here, andcommon microenvironment. Presentation conclusions indicate that: bulk samples NOT representative of surfacecommunity; microenvironments very important; and, bacterial interactions.
