This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of nitrification in drinking water systems. The study approach is presented, and topics covered include: evaluate impact of pipe corrosion on nitrificationoccurrencein four pipe materials that included PVC, copper, brass, and lead; nitrification effect on waterquality in different pipe materials; TOC creation in different pipe materials; after 3.5 days, complete ammonia loss inPVC at all pH (6.5-8.5) and phosphatelevels; ammonia loss in brass pipes after 3.5 days stagnation; and, correlation of ammonia loss % vs.soluble Cu in copper and brass pipes. Presentation conclusions indicate that: selection of pipe materials has a strongimpact on nitrification occurrence; nitrification in different pipe materials ishigh inIron, Concrete, PVC, Lead; medium inGlass, Galvanized, Brass; low inCopper; pH (6.5-8.5) and phosphate (5-1000 ppb)had no or very small impact onnitrification in PVC and lead pipes; and,pH (6.5-8.5) and phosphate (5-1000 ppb)can affect nitrification level in brass pipes(probably copper) by affecting corrosion. Includes figures.
