In response to growing public awareness ofwater quality issues and public demand forwater quality information, in 2006 the MadisonWater Utility sought an innovative solution tomaintain a high level of customer service whileminimizing the efforts required to providewater quality information to individuals. An all-pipes distribution system model wasused to identify the source of supply mixture,or zone of influence, for each of the 24 wellswithin the service area. GIS techniques wereutilized to associate the hydraulic model outputwith all customer service addresses and thisinformation was organized into a database tobe employed by the utility. This poster paper presents the result, a web-based address lookupsystem that allowed the public to view thesource of supply mixture at their location andprovided dynamic links to water quality informationdelivered only for the specific wellsthat served the individual. As a beneficial byproduct of the processused to review the accuracy of the databaseresults, figures were created illustrating thezone of influence for each well within the distributionsystem. These figures have since beenused by utility staff to aid in the identificationof candidate flushing locations in events ofwater quality impacts at particular wells.
