This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the East Valley Water District in California's San Bernardino County and historic perchlorate levels. In 2006, the district started a planning levelstudy to evaluate a centralized treatmentfacility consisting offour existing wells (Wells 24A, 24B, 25, and 107) that wouldtreat for both perchlorate and nitrate. Project objectives included the following:develop conceptual-level design criteria forion exchange and biological treatment;estimate life cycle costs; and, recommend treatment technology. Biological treatment alternative is outlined, along with life cycle cost analysis assumptions and a product flow comparison. Presentation conclusions and recommendations include the following:at this facility for low-level perchlorate andnitrate treatment, ion exchange is lessexpensive on a per acre-foot basis;use non-regenerable ion exchange forperchlorate removal; and,use regenerable ion exchange for nitrateremoval. Includes tables, figures.
