This powerpoint presentation presents information on determining the correct dosage that should be usedwhen designing an ultraviolet (UV) facility. The presentation begins by defining terminology and validation standards, along with validation dose calculation, and design recommendations. Summary and conclusions indicate that:European validation standards are basedon maintaining a B. subtilis RED of 40mJ/cm2;LT2ESWTR has a required dose of 12mJ/cm2 for 3-log Cryptosporidium;12 mJ/cm2 is a "true" dose, not a RED,and does not include a safety factor;REDs are specific to the microorganismand are a function of inactivation kineticsand dose distribution; the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) developed the validated dose toaccount for uncertainties in the validationprocess to allow for a comparison to theLT2ESWTR dose tables;UV facilities should be designed toachieve a validated dose that is greaterthan or equal to the required dose; and,the UVDGM or the UV Handbook can bereferenced for more detailed discussions. Includes tables, figures.
