This paper presents a recommendation for consistent use of the term "microconstituents" within thescientific, research, regulatory, public health, and utility communities, and by the general public. Thisfocuses on the various substances that have been and will continue to be detected in surface water,groundwater, and reclaimed water at very low concentrations. This paper was prepared at the request ofboth WateReuse Florida and the Florida Water Environment Association's (FWEA) Water ReuseCommittee, in response to the need for establishing appropriate terminology for discussing the collectivegroup of chemical and biological substances that may be present in water.
