This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting a brief overview of emerging disinfection byproducts (DBPs) of concern, and factors affecting theformation of regulated DBPs. The formation of emerginghalogenated DBPs, organic-nitrogen precursors, is presented along with the formation ofHalonitromethanes, the formation of emergingnon-halogenated DBPs,nitrosamines, occurrence vs toxicity - cytoxicity and genotoxicitydatabase from Plewa andcolleagues. Presentation summary and conclusions indicate the following: a wide range of DBPs in waterincludes N-DBPs of health concern;impacted by type of precursors - NOM, AOM, EfOM, bromide, nitrite, andcertain polymers;impacted by disinfection scenario- Cl2, NH2Cl, ClO2, and/or O3; need to balance control of regulatedDBPs with that of emerging DBPs- some emerging DBPs higher toxicity, however, need to consider bothoccurrence and toxicity. Includes table, figures.
