This poster paper provides brief background information on the following: master plan for Western Canal WTP completed by Carollo in 2006; and, future treatment processes currently being pilot tested at site. Project conclusions include the following: concentrate volume reduction through secondary reverse osmosis (RO)provides benefits in both short and long terms;concentrate volume reduction through chemicalstabilization is proven feasible at bench scale;compared with caustic soda, lime stabilizationachieves higher removal of scaling ions and requiresless acid for calcium control; and, proposed pilot scale equipment addresses lessonslearned from previous reported research, such asinsufficient settling and unsteady pH control.
