This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting project objectives that include the following: quantitatively analyze the hydrodynamics of ultraviolet (UV) reactors and dose delivery in real-time and in three dimensions using 3D-laser induced fluorescence (3D-LIF) technique; develop a large-eddy simulation (LES)-based CFD model to simulate the flow within the model UV reactor; and thus, develop an alternative method for UV reactor validation. UV reactor design considerations for LIF experiments are presented, along with a work in progress of a unique meshing approach for the combination of circular and rectangular cross sections. Presentation summary includes the following: 3D-LIF technique will be applied for the first time to successfully visualize and quantitatively analyze transient, three-dimensional mixing behaviors in UV reactor; UV reactor for LIF experiments is under construction; rhodamine 6G decay kinetics can be adjusted using H2O2 forreactive tracer test (UV dose distribution visualization and quantification); and, meshing UV reactors for LES-based CFD simulations are on-going. Includes figures.
