This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of project objectives, methods and results that include the following: Part I - develop a dynamic membrane, includingforming temperature sensitive brushes from HydroxypropylCellulose on the Cellulose Acetate membrane, Hydrophilic (extended) at low temperatures, andHydrophobic (collapsed) at high temperatures;compare Method 1 to Method 2;Part II (work done by the Civil Engineering Department at University of Toledo) -attach antibodies to the brushes using 1-(3-Dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide; and, bacteria attach to the antibodies and are detected using afluorescent marker that can be visually detected and quantified. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: we have successfully modified the membrane usingHPC and have shown temperature activation, NIPAAMcan be attached and method needs optimization;Method 1 vs. Method 2 -Method 1 activation effect was high but low flux, andMethod 2 activation effect was low but high flux;antibodies successfully attached using EDC; and, bacteria were detected using fluorescence. Includes figures.
