Gravity settling is a common method for solid/liquidseparation in water treatment.Successful solid/liquid separation in flocculationprocesses will decrease the probability of the membranefouling or filter clogging. This research is mainly focusing on understandingthe characteristics of the flocs and their settlingbehavior. Study hypothesis: flocs formed in water treatment are fractal and their properties can bedescribed best by fractal geometry. Topics presented include: size distribution analysis; measuring the mass fractaldimension (indirectly determined); and, measuring the box-counting fractaldimension (directly determined). Includes tables, figures.
