Aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) has become a major component in numerous water supplyinitiatives, particularly in Florida. Despite the recent focus and reliance on ASR, there have beenchallenges due to undesirable water chemistry changes in the storage zone aquifer, specifically, arsenic dissolution and subsequent detection in recovered water above the drinking waterstandard of 10 micrograms per liter (µg/L). The purpose of this study was to select engineeringdesign parameters for log-removal of dissolved oxygen for a degasification pretreatment systemthat would minimize the leaching potential of aquifer materials at an ASR project sited in theUpper Floridan aquifer. The basis of selection of design criteria was from results of a simplegeochemical model used to evaluate geochemical conditions resulting from injection of treatedrecharge water. The final pretreatment system design was to include provisions for 2-log removalof dissolved oxygen from recharge water. Includes 30 references, tables, figures.
