This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the need for a new water treatment facility for the city of Geneva. Membrane softening was selected as the treatment process, with pretreatment for iron and manganese. A pilot study was conducted to determinepretreatment requirements, raw and filtered shallow well water from existingplant were treated by RO pilot. Existing plantconsisted of oxidation with chlorine and pressuremedia filtration. Pilot testing conducted with two pilots: initial screening of various membranes andpretreatment options using 2.5" membraneelements at 50% recovery; and, further investigation of optimized conditionsusing 4" membranes at 80% recovery. Two different membranes were tested in parallel, with and without pretreatment using 2.5"membranes. Process design parameters for the full scale facility are provided, along with process schematic. Includes figures.
