This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Lead and Copper Rule. The objective of this study was to consider whether zinc addition is necessary to inhibitcement corrosion. The importance of this work addresses two concerns: the environmental concern of high zinc concentration in wastewater sludge/compost due to toxic nature of zinc; and, the financial concern of the high cost of zinc-based inhibitors. A brief review of a 2001 survey of inhibitor usage is presented, along with topics that covered: effects of water chemistry onconcrete; effects of inhibitors on concretecorrosion; carbonation; baseline water quality bench-scale testing; corrosion inhibitors; test rig schematic; quantifying corrosion; and, conclusions for aggressive waters, pH 7 and for nonaggressive water, pH 7. Includes table, figures.
