Intermediate Concentrate ChemicalStabilization (ICCS) removes scaleforming constituents that limit recovery, and projected conceptual system totalchemical costs for lime ICCS are muchlower than caustic soda ICCS. A one year test is presented, consisting ofgroundwater and blend water phases. Conclusions indicate that: ICCS is the most economic wayapproaching zero liquid discharge (ZLD) salinity management;95% overall recovery can be achieved onboth brackish surface and groundwaterusing ICCS and secondary RO; and,ICCS reactor removes 70 to 80% totalsilica on average. However, colloidal silicain the surface water causes fouling.
