This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Zone 7 Water Agency in northern California, and the seasonal taste and odor (T&O) problems it has due to algae in the sourcewater. The T&O control approach is presented and, compared to a conventional (multi-objective) ozone process, aT&O-only peroxone process might be much less expensive. The focus of this study was to quantify the potentialreductions in capital and operating costs. The pilot study included side-by-side operation of aconventional ozone contactor (10 minute over-under, fivechambers), and apipeline peroxone contactor (2.6 minutes) for ozone plushydrogen peroxide. The water was spiked with MIB and geosmin, and with bromide as needed, for thethree rounds of spiked testing (June, August, October). Topics covered include: ozone demand; raw water MIB results; settled water MIB results; biodegradable organic matter; raw water ozone vs.peroxone; and, cost comparison. Includes tables, figures.
