This powerpoint presentation begins by providing the study objective which was to examine the effects of converting from free chlorine to chloramines oncorrosion of distribution system materials. Methodology included new pipe rig studies (Phase I and II): free chlorine vs. chloramine; Cl<sub>2</sub>:NH<sub>3</sub>-N; stagnation time; and, pH. Existing lead service line studies (Phase III): scale analysis; lead leaching; stagnation time; and, pH. Study conclusions indicate that: the application of chloramines to new lead and copper pipegenerally resulted in less metal leaching; the majority of dissolved lead released within the first six hours ofstagnation; particulate lead is a significant source of lead in coupledpipe systems and harvested LSL (scaled pipe); no significant difference in lead release from harvestedpipe (significant existing scale) between chlorine andchloramine; and, scaled pipes from two different locations respondeddifferently to chloramination.
