The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Office of Groundwater and Drinking Water (OGWDW) partnered with USEPA/Region 5and the Chicago Manufacturing Center's Great LakesPartnership Program on a pilot project in the Chicagolandarea. The pilot began with the Chicagoland Water andWastewater Preparedness and Business Resiliency Summitheld November 28, 2007, in Chicago, Illinois.Chicago pilot supports homeland security efforts related to:critical infrastructure protection; manufacturing continuity of operations and businessresiliency; preparedness, response, and recovery; and, communication and information sharing.Communities need a variety of tools to enhance theirpreparedness for water emergencies. The pilot will:provide a methodology that communities can use toprotect their water infrastructure;raise awareness in the private sector, where mostwater preparedness assets are held; and,offer a collaborative public-private path forward that canbe tailored to the individual needs of each community.
