This paper presents a discussion of different methods that are available for tracer testing. This discussion will include: background and data analysis techniques; tracer selection and analysis techniques; tracer addition options; two case studies at existing water treatment plants (WTP). One of the case studies was performed at a WTP jointly owned by the Cities of Mesa and Phoenix, Arizona, while the other was performed in San Diego, California. The tracers used and addition techniques were different in these two case studies, hence, a comparison of methods can be made.
