The Pennsylvania American Water Company (PAWC) recognized the need to train or retrain plant operators as plants were improved and as regulations were being developed. The company developed and implemented a statewide operator training program for PAWC water treatment plant operators and relief personnel. One of the goals of the program was to help operators become certified. The program lasts one week, is voluntary, and is paid for by the water company. This paper details the 19 topics covered in the classes and discusses benefits of PAWC generating their own training materials.
