Through an agreement in October 1987, New Jersey Water Supply Authority, Malcolm Pirnie, Inc planned, designed, and provided bidding and construction management services for the Manasquan Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and accompanying 38,000 linear feet of transmission system. Overall performance of the WTP, to date, has been excellent. The use of ozone as a preoxidant in combination with granular activated carbon adsorption following filtration has maintained THMs at a relatively low level, in the range of 6 to 47 ug/l. Overall plant performance has met and often exceeded expectations. Turbidity, color, iron and manganese within the finished water are consistently well below drinking water standards.
