The Compact Water Treatment Plant concept involves the design of a water treatment facility with units processes which are not only adjacent, thereby eliminating connecting pipelines, electrical conduits, etc. but have a configuration which groups areas of highest and most critical operations activity. This not only saves capital costs but reduces distances between operations activities which saves operator time, positively impacts safety, and facilitates operations. The extreme opposite of this concept is designated as "Campus Design" in this paper. This concept would separate each unit process or significant structure to reduce structural complications and potentially improve the aesthetic appearance of the plant.
