When valves are used to throttle water flow where excessive pressure drop occurs, cavitation can occur. A valve can cavitate in ordinary systems where the pressure is as low as 75 psig and the valve is throttled to limit the flow rate. Views concerning predicting cavitation, preventing cavitation, and anti-cavitation trim are given.
