The Denver Water Department (DWD) goal for water conservation for their industrial and commercial customer is at least 1,400 acre-feet or 1/2 billion gallons of water savings per year by the year 2010. The results from a study identified and documented the water usage and water conservation potential at a portion of the DWD nonresidential customers. Thirty-six facilities were audited from nine water-user categories. The annual water consumption of the 36 participating facilities totaled nearly 2 billion gallons. The project consisted of five specific tasks: site selection and participation; onsite water audits; site-specific reports; summary report; follow up surveys at six months and one year. Each task had a purpose in accomplishing the overall objective of the study, which was to identify, evaluate, and disseminate information relating to specific water uses and water conservation opportunities for nonresidential water users.
