Large meter testing and repair programs were begun by The Pitometer Associates in Nashville, Tennessee, and in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1989. Both programs included field inspections of the large meters to determine whether or not the meters could be tested. Data gathered during the inspections included: location of the meters, availability of test plugs, manufacturer and type of meter, meter size, serial number, by-pass installation, available discharge for water during testing and unusual conditions that might affect testing and repair. The projects then continued with actual testing and repair or replacement of the meters in the field. Based on projections of increased revenue, it was concluded that the programs were worthwhile.
